How To Remove In & Out Points
In DaVinci Resolve
Four complete methods — keyboard shortcuts, the Mark menu, the Deliver page, and Undo — with every step explained for Resolve 18, 19, and 20 on both Windows and Mac.
In and Out points are one of those DaVinci Resolve features that are incredibly useful — right up until you set them by accident. Press I or O at the wrong moment and suddenly your timeline is looping the same two seconds, or your export is rendering a slice of the project instead of the full thing. The fix takes one keystroke. But only if you know which one.
DaVinci Resolve doesn't make this obvious. There is no glowing "Clear Markers" button in the interface. The option lives inside the Mark menu — a menu many editors never open — and the keyboard shortcut is easy to overlook. This guide walks through every available method so you can clear the points in whatever context you find yourself in: Edit page, Source Viewer, or the Deliver page at export time.
What You'll Need
This tutorial works in DaVinci Resolve 18, 19, and 20 on both Windows and Mac. The keyboard shortcuts are consistent across all versions, though Resolve 18.0 added the extra G shortcut for convenience.
DaVinci Resolve 18 or later (free or Studio edition) · A timeline with In/Out points set · No third-party plugins required — everything covered here uses built-in Resolve tools.

Keyboard Shortcuts — The Fastest Way
This is the method you'll use 95% of the time. One key combination clears both markers instantly without touching the mouse. Learn this first — it works from the Edit page, the Cut page, and the Source Viewer.
Click once inside the timeline area to ensure keyboard input is directed there. If focus is on a text field or dialog, shortcuts won't fire correctly.
This clears both the In point and the Out point in a single keystroke. The orange markers disappear from the ruler immediately and playback will no longer loop the highlighted range.
If you want to remove just the In point, press Alt + I (Win) or ⌥ + I (Mac). To remove just the Out point, use Alt + O (Win) or ⌥ + O (Mac). The other marker stays in place.

If you're on DaVinci Resolve 18.0 or newer, press G to instantly clear both In and Out points. It's a single-key shortcut with nothing to combine — the easiest muscle memory to build for this common action.
After pressing Ctrl + Alt + X (Win) or ⌘ + ⌥ + X (Mac) to clear audio markers, do not immediately press Backspace or Delete. Doing so will delete the entire audio region — not just clear the marker. This is a common editing accident in Resolve.
The Mark Menu
If you prefer menu navigation — or you've remapped your shortcuts and can't remember what they are — DaVinci Resolve's Mark menu gives you granular control over exactly which markers to clear.
Click the filmstrip icon at the bottom of the screen or press Alt + 6 (Win) / ⌥ + 6 (Mac). Your timeline must be visible.
The Mark menu sits in the top-left menu bar between Clip and Timeline. Click it to open the dropdown — it contains all marker-related commands in one place.
From the dropdown, select Mark → Clear In and Out. This removes both markers. For more granular control, you can also select Clear In or Clear Out individually, or the separate audio and video options listed below them.

Go to Help → Search Commands and type Clear In and Out. Resolve will highlight exactly where it is in the menus and confirm your current shortcut binding for it.
The Deliver Page — Fixing Export Range
You don't always need to remove the markers themselves. If the only problem is that your export is rendering a partial clip instead of the full timeline, you can override the In/Out range directly in the Deliver page without going back to the Edit page at all.
Click the rocket icon at the bottom of the screen, or press Alt + 7 (Win) / ⌥ + 7 (Mac).
In the Render Settings panel on the left, look for the Render option near the top. If In/Out points are set, it will currently show In/Out Range.
Click the selector and choose Entire Timeline. Your export will now render the full project, regardless of any markers on the timeline. No markers are actually removed — this just overrides them for this render job.
Changing the render range in Deliver does not remove the markers from the Edit page. The next time you open Deliver, the range may revert to In/Out if markers are still present. To permanently remove markers, use Alt/⌥ + X on the Edit page instead.
Undo — Instant Recovery
If you accidentally pressed I or O a moment ago, the fastest recovery is simply undoing the action before you do anything else.
Use Ctrl / ⌘ + Z immediately after the mistake
Press Ctrl + Z (Windows) or ⌘ + Z (Mac) to undo the marker placement. DaVinci Resolve maintains a multi-level undo history, so you can keep pressing it to step further back if needed.
The limitation: Undo only works cleanly if you catch the mistake immediately. If you've made further edits — cut points, color adjustments, audio moves — undoing will reverse all of those too, not just the marker placement. In that case, use Alt/⌥ + X instead, which removes only the markers without affecting your edit history.
How to Set In & Out Points Intentionally
Understanding when In and Out points are useful — and how to place them deliberately — means you'll use this feature as a tool rather than stumble into it by accident.
Double-click a clip in the Media Pool to open it in the Source Viewer (top-left panel on the Edit page).
Use the playhead or press ← / → to move frame by frame. Find the exact frame where you want the clip to begin.
Hit I on your keyboard. The In point marker appears on the Source Viewer's ruler. Resolve will only use content from this frame onward when you place the clip into the timeline.
Move the playhead to the desired last frame and press O. The highlighted region between the two markers is what will be inserted when you drag or use an edit command.
Drag the clip directly into the timeline, or press F9 (Insert Edit) / F10 (Overwrite Edit) to place only the marked section. To loop-preview the marked range first, press Alt + / (Win) or ⌥ + / (Mac).

Troubleshooting
Common Problems
The shortcut doesn't work
Make sure focus is on the timeline. Click once inside the timeline area before pressing the shortcut. If a text field, dialog box, or Inspector panel has keyboard focus, shortcuts won't fire as expected.
Also check that your shortcuts haven't been remapped. Go to DaVinci Resolve → Keyboard Customization and search for "Clear In" to confirm what keys are assigned.
My export still renders only part of the timeline
Even after clearing markers on the Edit page, always double-check the Render Settings in the Deliver page before adding to the render queue. The Render dropdown may still show "In/Out Range" from a previous session.
Switch it to Entire Timeline manually before clicking Add to Render Queue. This is a separate setting from the Edit page markers.
Pressing Ctrl + Alt + X deleted my audio
This is a common Resolve mistake. Ctrl + Alt + X (Win) clears the audio In/Out points — but if you then pressed Backspace or Delete, Resolve interpreted that as a delete command on the selected audio region. Press Ctrl + Z to undo immediately.
To safely clear audio markers only, press Ctrl + Alt + X and stop there — do not press any other key afterward until you've confirmed the markers are gone.
Markers reappear every time I reopen the project
In and Out points on the timeline ruler are saved with the project file in DaVinci Resolve. If they keep coming back, the markers haven't actually been cleared — just hidden by a view setting. Make sure you're pressing Alt/⌥ + X while the timeline has focus, not while the Source Viewer is active (which has its own separate marker state).
Also check both the timeline ruler and the Source Viewer ruler — these maintain independent In/Out points.
I want to clear markers from a clip in the Media Pool, not the timeline
Clips in the Media Pool keep their own separate In/Out points set during source previewing. To clear those, double-click the clip in the Media Pool to open it in the Source Viewer, then press Alt + X (Win) or ⌥ + X (Mac). This won't affect any instance of the clip already placed in the timeline.

- Deliver page render range does not auto-reset when markers are cleared on Edit page
